Resident recounts house fire, presses council on asset ownership and timing of state review

Lisa Mana, identifying herself during the public comment period, asked when the state report was provided to the township and whether the report reflects current conditions. "When was the state report findings made to the township?" she asked, and the mayor replied the report "was sent to us in the last month" and that the review began in late summer/early fall 2025.
Mana also recounted a personal incident from April 9, 2025, describing a rapid response by Kaysby that she said spared several homes. "Thank god I smelled smoke at 01:30 in the morning, called Kaseby Fire Department... a rapid response from Kaseby Fire Department and municipal mutual aid departments. My house was spared to this fire," she said.
She pressed the council on the ownership and disposition of Kaysby apparatus and whether taxpayers would be reimbursed if the district closes. The mayor answered that "at the moment that merger is official, all assets of the district will Kaysby District will move to the Ford's district" and that proceeds would be budgeted as revenue for the merged district, which would provide tax relief to residents.
Mana also raised questions about long-term tax abatements and payments-in-lieu affecting district assessments and asked the council to investigate a trucking operation near the firehouse on Smith Street; the mayor advised filing a formal request so staff could provide permit information.
