Iron County reports 14.4% increase in YTD timber-stumpage receipts

Forest Administrator Eric Peterson reported that 2026 year-to-date timber sale receipts total $388,354.96, compared with $339,601.07 at the same time in 2025, a difference of $48,753.89 (about 14.4%). Peterson said five logging crews are working on Iron County Forest lands and 11 sales remain active in various stages (hauling, closeouts, etc.).
Peterson also noted countywide road weight restrictions were put into effect March 5, which constrains some operations; he reminded the committee the forest certification audit is scheduled for Aug. 3-7 in Douglas, Bayfield, Ashland and Iron counties. The committee authorized advertising the 2026 Spring Timber Sale at the meeting.
