Main Street demonstration pitched to test downtown placemaking in Winnfield

Mrs. Shannon Chevallier presented a downtown "demonstration" project that the Winnfield Active People Coalition plans to run for the month of December to test placemaking ideas and gather rapid community feedback.
Chevallier said the demonstration is a low-cost, temporary intervention intended to show ideas before making permanent investments. Proposed elements include sidewalks, bike lanes, curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalks, traffic calming, street trees, pedestrian amenities and gathering places. She told the board the Main Street Program has about $10,000 on hand and that the program must come up with approximately $20,000 per year for ongoing work. The project is funded in part by the LSU AgCenter and will receive assistance from CPEX. The board asked Chevallier to provide an itemized list of needs and estimated funds required.
