St. Helena Parish officials say NACo meetings highlighted federal grant opportunities

Roderick Matthews, a parish department head, briefed the St. Helena Parish Police Jury on sessions he and other parish representatives attended at the NACo Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., Feb. 21–24, 2026. He said the delegation included President Quanika H. Muse, Sharonda Brown and Edward Galmon and that meetings highlighted potential federal funding sources relevant to rural parishes.
Matthews said parish representatives “met with staff members from Congresswoman Letlow’s office to discuss current and upcoming federal grant opportunities available to St. Helena Parish.” He told jurors that several funding programs are anticipated in the upcoming federal funding cycle and stressed the importance of submitting applications and securing required letters of support in a timely manner.
The update identified infrastructure funding opportunities, disaster recovery assistance and economic development initiatives as priorities discussed at NACo. Matthews recommended continued engagement with federal and state contacts to improve the parish’s competitiveness for grants.
