The Sacramento City Unified School District board voted unanimously to approve a fiscal sustainability plan designed to meet and modestly exceed a $150,000,000 solvency target set by the Sacramento County Office of Education. The board authorized $158,639,000 in reductions and solutions, established a monthly monitoring standard and required staff to post reductions immediately and identify replacement actions if any item falls short.
District presenters described the package as a mix of one-time and ongoing actions. "The plan is separate from the adopted 2627 budget and is built for measurable implementation," a district presenter said during the presentation. The package includes a verified one-time state block grant of $31,100,000, $20,300,000 from seven program strategies, $58,550,000 in broader cash-flow savings and $48,689,000 in negotiated OPEB-related relief; staff said the full combination provides an $8,639,000 implementation cushion beyond the $150 million target.
Supporters on the board framed the plan as a way to preserve local control and avoid a state receivership. Member Benjamin thanked the Sacramento City Teachers Association for its partnership and characterized the agreement linked to the plan as providing roughly $98,000,000 in three-year cash-flow support. The motion to approve was moved, seconded and passed by a unanimous roll call vote of members present.
