Board delays decision on 21 Hardy Road dispute, agrees to six-month review

The Stephens County Board of Commissioners delayed further action on a property dispute involving 21 Hardy Road (Parcel 071 I 001 A) and agreed to review the matter again in six months.
County staff introduced the item as an update requested by Randall Turner. Outside counsel told the board that litigation has been held up by a statutory legislative stay affecting Mobile Homes Direct’s lead counsel. “That gave that stays the case from the week prior to session starting until three weeks after session ends,” counsel said, adding that the stay began Jan. 18 and ended in late April. Counsel said depositions are being scheduled and that civil trial calendars in the region move slowly, so a final resolution could still take months. The board discussed the limits imposed by the statute and the practical impact of trial-calendar scheduling.
Commissioners agreed to a motion to review the file in six months and requested that either the Turners or Mr. Perry report any settlement before that review. The motion to set a six-month review was made and seconded and carried by voice vote.
