The American Fork City Council on June 16 approved a resolution to establish a proposed 9% general property-tax increase and set a Truth in Taxation public hearing for Aug. 11, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. The proposed rate would increase the city’s certified general tax rate from .001395 to .001516 and is expected to generate approximately $660,000; staff said the amount would be listed on county property-tax notices but would not be final until after the August hearing.
City staff presented the proposal as necessary to fund firefighter staffing for a new Station 53. Ms. Montoya told the Council the proposed increase is specifically earmarked for fire salaries and that the city must submit a proposed rate to the State by June 22 to meet statutory deadlines. Council Member Ryan Hunter moved the resolution and Council Member Tim Holley seconded; the motion passed unanimously (Hunter, Holley, John, Carroll, Taylor).
