Health Officer reports strong program reviews, staff training plans and community outreach initiatives

At the March 24 meeting the Health Officer reported multiple positive program-review outcomes and several operational initiatives for 2026.
The Birth to 3 program received a 97.4% overall score and was rated “Fully Met” across categories in a MetaStar/DHS review. The TN program had an excellent 2025 review and DNR feedback highlighted strong program performance. Staff training will support Tourist Rooming House inspections and well-water sampling; an AHEC CHIP intern is expected to assist with beach testing and environmental-health activities. The Health Officer also reported that the department met Title X clinical program expectations, completed jail kitchen inspections and wellness-check audits without late checks, will distribute Emergency Alert sign-up postcards, and is collaborating with the Aging Disability Resource Center on four initiatives including evidence-based healthy-living programs and emergency preparedness.
