Board briefed on Medicaid postpartum extension (2025 Wis. Act 102) and upcoming public-health capacity assessment
Summary
Board received a WALHDAB legislative update: Senate Bill 23 (now 2025 Wisconsin Act 102) extends postpartum Medicaid coverage to one year and the statewide Cost and Capacity Assessment (CCA) will be completed again to document resources for public-health services.
The Health Officer informed the Board that Senate Bill 23, enacted as 2025 Wisconsin Act 102, extends postpartum Medicaid coverage from 60 days to one year and directs the Department of Health Services to seek federal approval to align coverage with the 365-day postpartum period.
Board members were also told the Wisconsin governmental public-health system will complete the Cost and Capacity Assessment (CCA) again, following the 2022 baseline, to better understand monetary resources for delivering core public-health services and to inform future policy decisions.
