Wabaunsee County plans steady culvert replacements after Keene‑Eskridge failure

Road & Bridge Supervisor Josh Hinch reported a recent culvert failure on Keene‑Eskridge Road and said crews are replacing the failed culvert now. "The gap in the pavement will be filled with gravel until the asphalt can be patched," Hinch said, describing the temporary repair while the highway crew completes the replacement.
Hinch told commissioners that visual inspections of culverts take place every two years with photo documentation and that the county currently manages more than 1,600 culverts. He said the department expects to replace about 30 culverts per year going forward to maintain road safety and drainage. The commission did not take separate formal action other than receiving the update.
