A Fire & Emergency Services representative presented a budgeted purchase of 40 Scott XD self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and 30 cylinders from American Safety and Firehose for $378,463.70, saying the purchase was recommended by staff. "It is a total of $378,463.70, and staff would recommend approval," the representative said; the committee approved the purchase by consent.
The representative explained cylinders have an expected service life of about 20 years and can undergo periodic hydrostatic testing; when they reach end of life they must be destroyed but may be used for training until then. The committee moved and approved the item without further debate.
