Committee approves emergency purchases: gym boiler replacement and hazardous-tank cleanup

Prather described a failed boiler at Patriot's Park Gym and recommended replacing one of two boilers at a cost of $73,958.68, funded from building upgrades code 2328. "There are two boilers at this location, and the other one is limping along as well," Prather said, and staff recommended replacement to avoid further failures.
Water utility representative Gordon reported a ruptured hydrogen-peroxide tank at the Clarksdale Water Treatment Plant that required emergency cleanup by Clean Harbors Environmental Service. Gordon said, "The seam split on the tank, and it leaked out, filled up all the containment... We had nowhere to send the peroxide, and so we had to get somebody to come in, pump it out, and properly dispose of it." The cleanup cost presented to the committee was about $237,638.85 and was charged to contingency funds; staff requested formal approval, which was moved to consent.
