The Jay County Board of Commissioners adopted Resolution 2025-1 to set a public hearing on Jan. 27, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. to consider applications from nonprofit entities seeking transfer of tax-sale property located at 202 S Main St., Dunkirk (Property ID 38-09-08-103-108.000-014). County Attorney Wesley Schemenaur explained the board may assign tax-sale certificates to a nonprofit for the public good under IC 6-1.1-24-6.7, but noted a 120-day redemption period must be observed before title can transfer. Commissioners approved the resolution unanimously.
Separately, Nate Kimball of ECI Regional Planning District updated the board on the Owner-Occupied Rehab (OOR) program: bonds are no longer required before bidding; a pre-bid meeting is scheduled for Jan. 16 with bid openings planned for the Jan. 27 commissioners meeting. Kimball said total homes in this round were still to be determined and that "the radon remediation would not be negotiable" for homes that exceed the $25,000 allotment.
