Alan Crockett, speaking as Kiwanis president, said the parking area is needed for Fiesta and other fundraising events; Christine Jensen opposed any increase in the district's Benefit Assessment to cover costs.
Board members said they supported youth activities in principle but questioned funding certainty, safety and space. President Alex Gray said, "Loss of over 50% of available parking is not acceptable." Karolyn Stone noted the park is "less than 7 acres," arguing that reduction of open space would harm regular uses. Tamara Voss said the park permit is for passive uses and that adding active features raises liability concerns.
