The Jay County Board of Commissioners opened competitive bids Jan. 27 for owner-occupied rehabilitation projects in several towns, including Portland, Dunkirk, Redkey and Salamonia.
Bidders and line-item amounts were read into the record. Examples included AirXray's radon remediation line items such as "1218 S Shank St. Portland $9,935, 709 W Main St. Portland $10,823," Mustard Seed Remodeling roofing and ramp quotes with amounts for addresses across the county, Fortitude Design & Consulting bids (e.g., 1210 S Bridge St. $22,000) and Dave's Heating and Cooling HVAC and electrical bids (e.g., 315 N Commerce St. Portland HVAC $8,406; 315 N Commerce St Portland electric water heater $13,003).
County staff and the board agreed to take the bids under advisement so EGIS can review them and complete radon testing; projects without award or that were overbid will be added to a subsequent round. Mike Kleinpeter of Kleinpeter Consulting noted another round of bidding is expected after radon results and review.
