Evan King told council that by Dec. 21, 2025 the city must either adopt the state's model EV charger code and permitting procedures or adopt its own ordinance and permitting rules. "By December, 21st of 20 25, the city must either adopt the model code for EV charger code, like, permitting processes or adopt your phone," King said, stressing a choice point for staff and council.
Council raised practical questions about retrofits and insurance exclusions for EV charging equipment; one council member noted homeowners' insurance policies may exclude certain losses tied to accessory power devices, and staff agreed to include those implementation and insurance considerations in follow-up materials.
