The council unanimously approved a resolution supporting Colorado Gives Day in Douglas County on Dec. 10, 2024, as promoted by the Douglas County Community Foundation.
City Clerk Toby Duffy told council Colorado Gives Day was created in 2010 and has raised $469,000,000 for local charities since inception. "It raises awareness of local charities," Duffy said, and described tools residents can use to donate time or money and to search for local nonprofits.
Council members broadly supported the resolution while noting residents remain free to give where they choose; one councilor said the resolution does not prevent residents from donating to nonprofits outside Douglas County. The resolution passed with all present council members voting "Yes."
