Staff and the chair reviewed the proposed intergovernmental agreement (IGA) to levy a special 1% sales-and-use tax for transportation (T-SPLOST) that would run through March 2034 and is estimated to raise a minimum of $72,000,000. The IGA lists city allocations (Watkinsville $5,500,000; Bogart $2,200,000; North High Shoals $950,000; Bishop $568,000) and countywide allocations that include $17,100,000 for property-tax relief, roughly $36,000,000 for paving and $9,500,000 for intersection improvements. The board voted to adopt the IGA.
Daniel explained the referendum resolution that the board approved to call an election on Nov. 3, 2026, to impose the 1% tax beginning April 1, 2028, for a period not to exceed 20 years (as written in the resolution) to raise the estimated $72,000,000 for transportation purposes. Daniel said elections will follow standard procedures and noted Oct. 5 is the last day to register to vote for the referenced election.
