Melissa told commissioners the county received $181,164 in federal equitable-sharing (asset forfeiture) proceeds at the end of June and that those funds must be accounted for in the FY27 budget. Because the funds arrived after the budget adoption, staff asked the board to approve a budget amendment to appropriate the $181,164 so the sheriff's office may spend the funds for eligible law-enforcement activities consistent with federal compliance requirements.
Melissa said the funds will be included in the county's federal receipts for audit purposes and cautioned that the funds carry specific compliance obligations that staff has reviewed; the recommended amendment simply places the amount into the FY27 budget so eligible expenditures may proceed.
