County clerk rolls out budget packet and offers online departmental budget entry via CAI

County Clerk Cora presented a budget packet to commissioners that includes a schedule of deadlines, a template for a budget narrative, five-year revenue worksheets and guidance for capital-outlay planning. Cora said the packet is flexible and will help departments explain services, goals and capital needs for the coming fiscal year.
Cora also told the board that ComputerArts (CAI) provides a "departmental budget" menu that would allow departments to enter their own budget requests online; she said CAI will work with the county IT director to deploy an icon on staff machines and schedule a short training session. "If you guys believe that it is a good idea that we go ahead and look into this a little bit more, I do have a call after this with CAI," Cora said (speaker 9). Cora said the approach will make the process more transparent and produce consistent documentation for budget workshops.
Commissioners supported the idea and asked staff to move forward with CAI configuration and training and to return with timeline details for budget workshops.
