Commissioners approve $69,440 repair for scraper and $34,136 pump replacement; staff warns of water-truck parts shortage
Summary
Public Works reported major repairs at the landfill: a $69,440.27 rebuild for a scraper transmission (possible $17,999 core refund) and a $34,135.78 purchase of a 10-hp American Pump. Staff also said an aging water wagon has discontinued John Deere parts, risking compost operations.

Public Works told the commission the landfill scraper's transmission had failed and presented a repair quote of $69,440.27 with a core charge that could be refunded if the county returns a usable core. Commissioner (speaker 4) moved to approve the repair and the board approved the motion by roll call (SEG 1222-1231, SEG 1382-1392).
Shortly afterward, Public Works presented an updated estimate of $34,135.78 for a 10-horsepower American Pump to move more water at the landfill. Commissioners moved and approved the pump purchase by roll call (SEG 1411-1418, SEG 1460-1473).
Public Works also warned that an older water wagon at the landfill uses a John Deere motor for which parts are discontinued and scarce; staff reported searching nationwide and recommended exploring rental, lease-to-own or replacement options to ensure the county can maintain composting and waste operations. The department noted it has $75,000 remaining in the solid-waste equipment budget this year and will continue to evaluate options before committing additional capital.
