The Ward County Water Resource Board voted May 11 to pursue a rock‑ramp and lower the top of Burlington Dam 3 rather than full removal or full rehabilitation. Roger Kluck moved to pursue the rock‑ramp and Dale Dohms seconded; the motion passed 4-1, with Travis Zablotney voting no.
Wildwood Golf Course representatives and Kent Pietsch told the board that removing the dam could affect the golf course’s operation; Aaron Faken of Wildwood warned that removal could lead to litigation. Burlington Fire Department representatives said lowering the top of dam by the approved vertical distance would not impede their ability to obtain water from the Mouse River, and the board separately approved (5-0) a motion to remove trees and debris affecting stop logs to maintain access and function.
