Interim economic director urges county support as housing concerns rise

Cindy Wallace, the county's interim economic director, told Pawnee County Commissioners that a 1989 decision set a half-mill property-tax allocation for Economic Development and requested help publicizing economic-development resources. She said the department lacks a website and was advised to consult Public Information Officer Joel Davis about adding an Economic Development page to the county site.
Wallace also raised an emerging "housing crisis" in Pawnee County and said a multi-agency meeting scheduled for the next day would include Larned State Hospital, Kansas Department of Corrections, the City of Larned, Pawnee County and business owners. Casey Smith, Larned Chamber Director, provided a brief update on upcoming events including Moonlight Madness and an October golf tournament.
