Council reviews road-project buckets; staff to seek county participation for Monarch Boulevard improvements

Staff said the Monarch project could change if a roundabout is warranted at Buffalo Trail and Monarch instead of a signal; a traffic-engineering study in the contract scope will determine whether a roundabout or signal is appropriate and will affect the cost estimate. Staff said the city intends to ask the county to partner on a share of the Monarch costs, historically seeking county participation for arterial improvements. Council members urged careful coordination with county staff, the metro district and project timing to avoid overlapping major asks.
No formal council pledge of county ask amounts was finalized in the study session; staff said they would pursue coordination with county staff and report back to council with a recommended funding request and updated cost estimates.
