Road department staff told commissioners the department has a backlog of safety‑related tree work and other tasks that require a bucket truck, and recommended purchasing a used 2018 Freightliner with an Altec AA55 boom for $84,900 from the dealer Nueco.
"We... are ready to recommend that, that you purchase this truck for $84,900," the road department representative said, citing DOT and dielectric inspection reports, service records held by the dealer and a 30‑day warranty. Staff asked the board to approve proceeding with the purchase pending an inspection by the Troup County shop and an operator test of the boom and controls.
Commissioners discussed past replacement timing, repair costs for the prior truck (staff said a quoted repair would have been about $55,000), usage patterns and how buying used compares with purchasing a new truck with a much higher price tag. The staff presentation noted a 60‑foot vertical reach on the proposed truck and explained that buying used from the dealer includes pre‑delivery repairs at no extra cost.
