Board approves two easements for Route 8 bridge project; VDOT estimates work to begin late next summer

The Patrick County Board of Supervisors approved two easement requests connected to a Virginia Department of Transportation Route 8 bridge project during its April 13 meeting. VDOT residency administrator Robin Keeler presented the easement requests for Parcel 003 (temporary and permanent) and Parcel 004 (temporary and permanent), both under UPC 111410.
Keeler told the board the project is "estimated to begin late next summer" and confirmed Ashby Road work would be finished before bridge construction commences. She also said the existing bridge would remain open to traffic with one lane accessible during the work. Both easement requests were approved unanimously on motions by Supervisor Steve Marshall and seconded by Clayton Kendrick.
The actions clear the county-side property needs for the state-led bridge project, and staff noted coordination between VDOT and county roadwork timelines will continue as the project advances.
