PCPSA updates: hydrant inspections, generators and FOG treatments ongoing

PCPSA staff updated the board on several operational issues, including a planned hydrant inspection program, generator maintenance and ongoing treatment for fats, oils and grease (FOG) in pump stations.
Directors were told routine hydrant and valve maintenance has been coordinated with county maintenance staff but county capacity limitations led PCPSA to contract inspection work to local volunteer fire departments. Patrick Springs Fire will inspect about 58 hydrants in its district and Stuart Fire three hydrants; funding of $85 per hydrant was approved by the county administrator and will be paid from the Emergency Management Services FY26 budget. PCPSA will supply tools and any follow-up parts necessary for repairs.
On pump stations, bi-annual generator testing by Carolina Generators on March 2 found Generator #1 with a corroded radiator (unit taken offline pending replacement) and Generator #4 required minor repairs that were completed. Heavy grease buildup was reported at Pump Stations #3, #4 and #5; PCPSA applied Chemsearch FE treatments and is monitoring monthly doses while coordinating with Patrick County Schools to reduce grease entering the system from school kitchen operations.
