Resident James Rood urges Cromwell to offer competitive pay and residency flexibility for town manager

James Rood, who identified himself as living at 25 High Ridge Road, used the public-comment period to urge the council to craft a compensation and benefits package that will attract and retain a qualified town manager.
"We need our new town manager to be experienced, energetic, creative, personable, and visionary," Rood said, and urged the council to be "dutiful in your consideration of the elements of the compensation package." He also urged the council to consider residency requirements and noted that "there are currently 3 director level positions whose salary for the current year budget are a $164,727," which he said is about 3.1% lower than a proposed $170,000 minimum appearing in the discussion.
Rood's remarks were the only public comment recorded on the manager posting that evening; the mayor said he had received one request via social media for the current job description and would provide the charter section that governs the job summary.
