After a public hearing with no speakers, the Arcadia Unified School District board on Dec. 10 approved Resolution 24‑25‑15 to increase school facilities developer fees in line with state allowable Level 1 amounts. The justification study prepared by King Consulting supported the district's ability to charge the higher rates, which the district said are intended to cover future facility needs created by new housing.
District staff explained the state survey methods and noted that, on average, each new residential unit generates about 0.25 of a student in the district. The board approved the resolution unanimously 5–0; staff said the new fees will be posted and take effect in 60 days. The action cites Government Code section 65995(b)(3) as the legal authority for setting developer fees.
Why this matters: Developer fees are one mechanism for school districts to recover a portion of the cost of new facilities tied to growth in housing; the change affects builders and homeowners planning additions or new construction.
