Chief Sheller explained the vehicles were included in the adopted budget and that remaining funds will outfit them with laptops and public safety equipment to support the department's take‑home policy.
Chief Sheller said the new vendor Dana Supply and the outfitting vendor can turn equipment around "within 3 to 4 days," improving on previous delays. The motion to approve the purchase for a total of $138,585 passed by voice vote, 5‑0. Council members asked routine questions about fleet size and replacement strategy, and the chief said the new SUVs are expected to last seven to nine years under normal use.
