Lantana earns LEED for Cities Silver designation, staff cite grants and marketing benefits

Development Services Director Nicole Dritts presented the town LEED for Cities scorecard and announced that Lantana has been designated LEED Silver after scoring 54 points — six points shy of Gold.
"We have been designated as a LEED for cities in the silver certifications," Dritts said, and she walked council through credits and gaps on the scorecard. She told council the cohort experience included peer calls with much larger municipalities, that the cohort carried a roughly $30,000 value in services, and that the designation can be used both for marketing and to strengthen grant applications.
Dritts highlighted credits the town earned: centennial tree plantings and a mapped park-access radius, code language encouraging EV chargers, and innovation credits for actions the town had taken outside the standard manual. "That's our fertilizer free zones and also our balloon and sky lantern ban," she said. Council members asked whether the designation helps in grant scoring; Dritts said it does and that the town can recertify every five years to pursue higher levels.
The presentation was informational; no formal council action was required. Council members praised staff for assembling the data and noted the town will include the LEED Silver logo in future materials.
