Perry–Houston County Airport sees expansion as FAA designates it regional

The Houston County Board of Commissioners heard an update from Jim Marquardt, Perry–Houston County Airport Manager, who said a $956,000 south-apron project is underway to create eight airplane parking spaces and that new T-hangar construction for 14 aircraft, Alpha taxiway repairs and additional corporate hangars are in progress. "Based on the number of takeoffs and landings at the airport the FAA has upgraded the Airport to that of a regional airport," Marquardt told the board, and he said that will require updating the Airport's 10-year Airport Layout Plan with the FAA sooner than scheduled.
Marquardt also reported operational concerns: trees on two sides of the field are encroaching on takeoff and landing paths and will be removed or trimmed to maintain safety. Commissioners did not take action on capital funding during this update; the report served to notify the board of growth-related infrastructure needs and to signal coordination with the FAA on planning documents.
