New Smithville site will include accessibility tools and one-click translation, staff say

City staff said the redesigned website will add an accessibility widget (larger text, spacing, dyslexia-friendly mode, color contrast and cursor options) and a translation option to convert content for non-English readers.
Gina demonstrated accessibility features built into the new site, including controls to enlarge text, increase spacing, hide images, enable a dyslexia-friendly font and change contrast settings to aid readability. "You can even change the contrast if certain colors are hard to see...you can make your cursor bigger," she said.
Gina also pointed to a translation feature that will let users convert page content in place. Staff said these tools are intended to reduce barriers for residents and visitors and will be part of training for departmental editors so pages are created with accessibility in mind.
