Smithville previews redesigned website with mid-May launch window

City staff previewed a redesigned Smithville website with a scheduled go-live the week of May 12 and a migration cutoff of May 15. The site will add news, improved search, calendars and department editors; staff warned some quality-control issues during migration.
Gina, the city’s communications lead for the project, presented a walkthrough of the redesigned Smithville website and told aldermen the vendor scheduled a go-live on "Monday, May 12, if everything goes well with the transition." She said the final migration cutoff is May 15 and cautioned that the transition may be "a little bit bumpy."
The landing page will include a news box, a central search function, quick links for online payments and applications, and department pages that staff can edit. Gina said the city is migrating content and conducting quality control; she thanked Linda Drummond for serving as a project manager and said department editors will receive training to keep pages current.
Board members raised questions about calendars, search behavior and how old documents will be handled. Gina said the new calendar separates meetings from community events and can export listings. She also said the search cannot be fully tested until the site is live and that staff plan to archive older documents to avoid surfacing out-of-date materials.
