Officials say marijuana sales tax reporting altered Henry County's rollback calculation
Summary
Board staff told members the county's levy calculation rose because marijuana sales tax receipts were reported with general revenue, affecting the rollback math; staff corrected the figures and will publish the hearing notice.

During the levy discussion the Chair explained the anomaly: marijuana sales tax receipts were reported alongside other general revenue, which altered the rollback calculation used to set the levy. "The marijuana sales tax got reported on the actual receipt of sales tax money," the Chair said, and that reporting change led the computed levy to increase rather than decline as expected after reassessment and CPI adjustments.
The Chair and staff reviewed left- and right-hand columns in the packet to show the corrected 2026 projection and explained they will subtract the marijuana sales tax for tax-levy presentation purposes even though the state's reporting rules required combined reporting. Chair emphasized staff (Rick) verified the corrected calculations.
