Houston County hires Granicus to identify and regulate short-term rentals after software demo found 400 properties

The Board unanimously approved signing a contract with Granicus (Denver, Colorado) for $15,191.61 to provide software and services that identify privately owned residential properties used as vacation homes and help regulate and tax transient rentals in unincorporated Houston County. The contract begins Sept. 1, 2025, with a startup and training phase and a go-live date of Jan. 1, 2026.
Chairman Perdue described the software's function: "this company has software that identifies these types of rentals and helps to bring these properties into compliance." Commissioner Byrd said that during the software demonstration "over 400 of these types of properties were found in Houston County," and that roughly 150 of those were in unincorporated areas. The contract is intended to bring those properties into compliance with county standards and taxation requirements.
