County approves agreement allowing Alton High Fence Committee to build deer fence along right‑of‑way

The commission approved an agreement March 24 allowing the Alton High Fence Committee—composed of local property owners—to install and maintain an eight‑foot wildlife fence along the edge of the county right‑of‑way near Alton. Staff said the proposed alignment would be just inside the county right‑of‑way boundary and that the committee would be responsible for construction, maintenance and permitting coordination with federal/state agencies as needed.
Taylor, who presented the item, said the agreement clarifies roles and responsibilities so that the county is not liable for maintenance. “They decided that it would be best for a portion of the fence to go along the right of way boundary,” Taylor said. Commissioners voted to approve the agreement and noted the committee must secure any disturbance/permits and coordinate with BERC (biological/resource permitting) where required.
