The commission voted to approve purchase of State Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration property (certificate of sale no. 27339) to help resolve survey errors that left several Churchwells property owners without legal access. Taylor (staff) explained the county would take title, resurvey, and later partition the parcel so individual owners could receive corrected legal descriptions and grants to cover acquisition costs.
County attorney Jeff Scott advised caution about standard sale terms and asked authorization to negotiate removal of restrictive covenants before signing. “When we sit down with [the seller] they sent over this agreement...they want to keep rights to oil, gas, and minerals...and I think we've already agreed to all that,” Jeff said, recommending approval of the purchase amount while reserving negotiation on restrictive terms. Commissioners approved the purchase with that direction to legal staff.
