Commissioner Patty Kubeja described longstanding surveying issues after State Institutional Trust Lands Administration (SITLA) removed land from a monument near Big Water and Church Wells without conducting surveys that preserved property lines and access. "When the monument was made and they took all the SITLA land out of the monument through Big Water and Church Wells there were no surveys done so some of the property owners in the Church Wells area lost half of their lot, it also took away access on a road," Kubeja said.
Kubeja reported that SITLA has agreed to resurvey the area and offer the land for sale; county staff and Kevin Barnes secured CEO Board grant assistance to help affected businesses. The commission approved purchase of SITLA Certificate of Sale No. 27339 and directed additional negotiations to remove restrictions from the sale if possible. Attorney Jeff Stott said he will contact SITLA to negotiate contract changes.
