The commission approved recommendations from the Kane County Economic Opportunity Board to spend rural county grant funds on two local initiatives: $10,000 to support area farmers markets and a downtown façade/tenant improvement, sign and beautification grant program totaling up to $75,000. Kelly Stoll, chair of the Economic Opportunity Board, told the commission the farmers‑market funding would support marketing and signage and directly benefit about 80 small businesses.
“These funds go to support around 80 small businesses, that participate with the farmer's markets,” Kelly Stoll said. The façade and tenant improvement program is a 50/50 match with per‑application caps (up to $7,500 for façade/tenant improvements, $2,500 for signage and $1,000 for beautification). Commissioners added a motion condition that applicants must provide proof of necessary municipal permits before final reimbursement; the board approved the funds by voice vote.
