County updates grazing zone to recognize livestock use of county roads

Kane County adopted Ordinance O 2026-08 to amend the Escalante Region grazing zone (ERMU/MFGZ) and the general plan to recognize select county Class B and D roads as Historical Livestock Trails used by producers moving livestock between allotments.
Taylor Glover told commissioners the ordinance updates Title 9, Chapter 27 Article A to incorporate Kane County roads (Class B and Class D) that local livestock producers use as Historical Livestock Trails when moving animals between allotments. "Many of the livestock producers in Kane County who move their livestock from allotment to allotment will use county roads as the livestock trail and we want to recognize that as a use in our ordinance and is something we allow," Glover said.
Commissioner Celeste Meyeres moved to approve the ordinance to amend the ERMU/MFGZ and to update the county general plan; the motion carried with all commissioners present voting aye. The change formalizes the county's recognition of that traditional movement and clarifies permitted uses along those roads for grazing-related activities.
