The House Naming and Designating Committee voted unanimously on Feb. 2 to advance HB 1481, a bill that would designate the third Sunday in June on Tennessee’s calendar as Father's Day.
Representative Bostle said, “This is a bill, members, simply to designate the 3rd Sunday of June on our Tennessee calendar as Father's Day,” noting that the third Sunday of June is the national recognition of fatherhood and that the Tennessee Blue Book currently lists Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May but has not formally listed Father's Day.
Members asked no substantive questions. Clerk Mr. Clark announced the vote as eight ayes and no nays, and the committee moved HB 1481 to the State and Local Government Committee with a positive recommendation. The bill will now proceed through that committee for further consideration.
