City traffic engineers told attendees failure-to-yield violations were the most prominent problem across the four targeted corridors, and that different corridors show different dominant crash types: Rural (University'Broadway) had more pedestrian-related serious crashes, University Drive had a mix including signal disregard, Southern showed angle crashes often related to turning movements, and Elliott had left-turn-related crashes.
"So you can see there's kind of a, a pattern here with failure to yield," Eli Velosin said, describing a recurring enforcement and engineering target. Velosin said engineering responses in this activation will include small and mid-size adjustments such as signal-timing changes, trimming foliage to improve sign visibility, and maintenance of existing signs and striping rather than major construction or street closures.
Engineers said they conduct field reviews, ride-alongs and observational studies at the start of each activation to watch behaviors and tailor changes to the specific violations observed on each corridor.
