Commission approves 2% pay adjustment for Sheriff's Office as staffing improves

The Sedgwick County Commission on Sept. 4 approved a 2% pay adjustment for Sheriff's Office staff after Sheriff Jeff Eastwood presented data showing improved hiring since prior raises and argued pay increases were key to reducing vacancies.
Sheriff Eastwood said recent steps, including earlier raises, supervisory training and a health-and-wellness unit, have improved recruitment and retention. He told commissioners the Sheriff's Office estimated the 2024 cost of the 2% adjustment would be absorbed in its current budget and that the 2025 cost of maintaining the adjustment would be about $933,000. The commission moved, seconded and approved the pay adjustment by roll call (all aye).
