The Rio Blanco County Board of Commissioners approved a professional services agreement with SGM Inc. for design and engineering of the County Road 17 bridge replacement, not to exceed $134,400.
A commissioner moved the contract, saying, "I make a motion that we approve an agreement for the professional services with SGM Inc for the County Road 17 Bridal replacement design and engineering services in the amount not to exceed a $134,400." The chair seconded and the motion carried by voice vote.
Staff told commissioners the current span failed two years ago and that temporary restrictions had limited traffic to single‑file crossings. County staff described three options SGM had produced — ranging from a minor, short‑term repair to a full rehabilitation — and said the county elected to pursue a full replacement after the rehabilitation option drew insufficient bids from contractors.
Staff said the replacement is being planned as a full replacement with an expected service life of about 75 years. Key near‑term milestones noted by staff include a 30% design deliverable due August 24; staff described the 30%–90% design phase as a rapid turnaround and estimated construction could be completed by the end of next year, depending on procurement and permitting timelines.
The board did not request an executive session and took no additional action on the item beyond approving the agreement. The board adjourned at 1:06 p.m.
