He asked whether the village should pass a similar motion directing the county to pause. "Coral Gables just voted unanimously to urge Miami Dade County to delay their decision to build and relocate the county's largest garbage incinerator to the Everglades," he said.
Members discussed measuring the village's primary sources of landfill material (construction debris, contamination in curbside recycling, etc.) and possible ordinances requiring construction and demolition recycling plans as part of development approvals. Rachel (S3) noted staff is pursuing legislation and steps to reduce recycling contamination by 25%; the task force asked staff to follow up with the clerk and code enforcement to draft potential text amendments.
