Planning commission approves Avon Old Farms School site plan for 5,000-SF health center

The Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved App. #5060, a site plan for a new 5,000-square-foot health and wellness center at Avon Old Farms School, with standard conditions requiring compliance with Building, Fire, Engineering, and Farmington Valley Health District standards and a building permit. Glenn Wilcox, Facilities Manager for Avon Old Farms School, described the proposal: "The proposal is for a new health/wellness center (5,000 SF) located adjacent to the existing health center, (2,400 SF) which is now inadequate for the School’s needs." Wilcox said staffing and the general campus use would not change and that urgent care needs requiring overnight stays would be routed to nearby hospitals.
Planning staff recommended approval, noting the new building will be out of view from the road and that any proposed wall signage would be reviewed for conformance. Commissioner Christine Graesser moved for approval subject to departmental compliance and a building permit; Randall Bowers seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous.
