Attorney for Avon Old Farms School asks commission to reclassify EL zone language

Pearson told the commission the School owns over 600 acres, that the EL zone historically reflected shifts since the 1940s, and that labeling the School property as rural or as passive open space does not match the School’s potential uses: "The EL Zone is different from agricultural and recreation/open space zones—the EL Zone allows for development while agricultural and open space zones do not." Pearson requested adjustments to Section 1.3, Section 3.1, Section 5.1, and Section 5.13 to reflect appropriate accessory uses and sign allowances.
Commissioners asked staff to research classification practices in other towns and to return with findings. Director Peck said he would research the School's requests and provide information at the next meeting so the commission could assess whether the EL wording better reflects a developable institutional campus.
