Neighbor raises alarm over Darling Drive Housing Opportunity Zone

During public comment on March 11, Claire Henderson, a Pond Place resident, said she was alarmed by the draft Darling Drive Housing Opportunity Zone, which she said connects directly to Pond Place and could allow large multifamily buildings. Henderson said: "Building a four-story apartment building in this area is scary." Planning Director Hiram Peck responded that a previously discussed application for a parcel on Darling Drive did not move forward and that the commission would review zoning language and public comments at the continued hearing.
Commissioners acknowledged the community concern and kept the hearing open to allow further written input and staff research. The Darling Drive designation is one of two new Housing Opportunity districts in the draft (the other is the Avonwood Road HOD) and will be reviewed again March 18.
