County adopts resolution to challenge Contra Costa in annual 'Food Fight' to raise food and funds

The Solano County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a resolution endorsing participation in the 21st annual employee-driven 'Food Fight' against Contra Costa County to raise food and funds for residents in need.
Caitlin Sly, president and CEO of the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano, told supervisors the food bank distributes fresh produce, protein and dairy, and that in Solano County alone volunteers and pantries see people come to distribution sites roughly 150,000 times per month; she said $1 of donations provides the equivalent of roughly two meals. County staff reported Solano employees raised $63,547 in 2023 and that the multi-department contest has raised more than $2.5 million since 2004.
Supervisors encouraged department-level events and friendly competition. The board moved to adopt the resolution and authorized staff to promote and coordinate county participation; the vote was 5-0.
